If you plan to go shopping regularly with the stroller, your model should have a large shopping basket that's easily accessible from all sides. A small turning radius is also an advantage in narrow supermarket aisles.

Parents with long legs need a stroller with a height-adjustable handle and enough legroom while pushing. Plus: tall parents often have tall kids - so look for a spacious stroller bassinet and a stroller seat with generous dimensions.

Swiveling front wheels are a must for a small turning radius. On many models, you can lock the front wheels at the push of a button, so they run more smoothly on forest trails.

Which type of handle is best?

A hinged handlebar is practical for climbing stairs and offers plenty of legroom. Plus, your toddler can push the stroller themselves - kids learning to walk love that! Telescopic handles have the advantage that the height can be adjusted with one hand.

Which brake does my stroller need?

A foot brake is completely sufficient for everyday use. It's located either in the middle of the rear axle or on one of the rear wheels. If you live in a very hilly area or want to go jogging with the stroller, a hand brake is practical, letting you control your speed.

Which tires are best for a stroller?

Pneumatic tires with a tube, tire casing, and valve like on a bicycle absorb bumps optimally. You can inflate them as needed - a bit softer for bumpy paths, a bit firmer for paved roads.
Foam-filled tires are maintenance-free - shards of glass or sharp stones can't harm them. They're made of foamed plastic with a continuous hollow chamber or several air chambers and offer good cushioning.
EVA or airless tires are lighter and more affordable. However, they're only suitable for smooth, paved paths since they don't offer strong cushioning. That's why EVA tires are more often used on lightweight strollers.

High-quality mattress
With some models, you have the option of raising the mattress slightly at the head end if your baby spits up a lot or suffers from reflux. A vent on the underside is also a great feature.
Large sun canopy
Babies really don't like being dazzled by the sun, and their skin is very sensitive. That's why the canopy on both the bassinet and the stroller seat can't be too big.

Modern strollers can usually be used until early preschool age, so up to about 3 to 4 years. The bassinet is typically used until around the 7th-9th month, after which the stroller seat is used.

It's best to buy your stroller in the second trimester of pregnancy. That leaves enough time for delivery, assembly, and airing out the model before your baby is born.
