Bedside Sleepers

Different sizes

Larger bedside sleepers are even as big as the smallest toddler bed size (60 x 120 cm). Unlike standard toddler beds, there is no standardization here. That's why it's important to pay close attention to the exact dimensions of the sleeping surface when buying a mattress!

Accessories

A bedside sleeper is usually delivered without accessories. These must be purchased separately. This includes a suitable mattress (pay attention to the bedside sleeper's sleeping surface!) and, if needed, a canopy, canopy holder, and bumper.

However, some manufacturers also offer fully equipped models that already include the textile accessories.

How long can I use a bedside sleeper?

Many parents wonder: Is a bedside sleeper even worth it? Won't my child only sleep in it for a very short time? How long a baby can sleep in a bedside sleeper depends primarily on the size of the bedside sleeper. Babies fit in small bedside sleepers for at least up to 6 months, while in larger ones children can still sleep in them at 18 months. However, it also depends on how active the child is while sleeping. If they roll around and turn a lot, they will naturally wake up faster in a bedside sleeper – in that case, switching to a larger toddler bed is recommended.

Tip: If you want to use the bedside sleeper for as long as possible and have enough space available, we recommend buying as large a bedside sleeper as possible.

FAQs about bedside sleepers

A bedside sleeper, also known as a co-sleeper or bedside crib, is a specially designed crib that can be attached to the parents' bed. It allows parents to be close to their baby while it lies in its own safe sleeping area.

A bedside sleeper offers many advantages that a bassinet or toddler bed doesn't provide: it has a relatively small sleeping surface, in which the baby feels much more comfortable than in a large toddler bed, since it's used to the closeness of the womb. It's also attached directly to the parents' bed. The side facing the bed is open, so mom can take care of the baby directly without having to get up – whether for breastfeeding or simply to soothe the baby. The extension of the baby mattress reaches all the way to the parents' mattress, so no gap is created.

The length of time you can use a bedside sleeper depends on the size of the bed and your child's development. Bedside sleepers are generally suitable for babies up to one year old, but some models can also be used for older babies.

For a bedside sleeper, suitable mattresses, bedding, and sleep sacks that fit the size of the bed are recommended. Make sure everything fits well to ensure your baby's safety.
